DSP and controls developed together

A library meeting room may need straightforward presentation controls. A training or event space may need multiple audio zones and operating modes. The design starts with those uses and the installed equipment.

DSP and audio routing

Q-SYS Designer work can include microphone and playback paths, gain structure, mixing, mute logic, output routing and acoustic echo cancellation. We define the near-end, far-end and loudspeaker paths so the intended flow can be reviewed. Dante or AES67 connections are scoped against the actual endpoints and network responsibilities.

Lua and UCI programming

Lua scripts can coordinate room modes, device commands and status feedback. We design UCI page layouts, navigation, visual styling and control states for the intended touchscreen. User control interfaces expose the controls each audience needs, with clear source, level and mute states. Device protocols, licences and platform compatibility are reviewed before an integration is accepted into the project scope.

Conferencing integration

We coordinate audio paths and control behaviour around the room's conferencing system, including Teams Rooms or Zoom Rooms where applicable. The work covers the agreed interface between systems. Call quality must be tested with the actual endpoints, room microphones, loudspeakers and a far-end participant.

Remote commissioning requires an on-site technician who can identify devices, operate controls and listen in the room. Together we check microphone pickup, playback levels, loudspeaker output, routing and mute behaviour. For conferencing, the checklist includes far-end listening, echo symptoms and simultaneous speech under representative room conditions.

AEC configuration depends on the signal paths and what the microphones hear in the space. Software changes cannot establish whether a cable is miswired or a loudspeaker is physically obstructed. Microphone placement, room acoustics and background noise may need physical correction. These findings are recorded with the responsible party and follow-up check.

Acceptance criteria and the available measurement or listening checks are agreed beforehand. When hardware, access or a far-end test participant is unavailable, the corresponding check remains open. The handover identifies what was verified and what still requires a site visit or a coordinated test.

Project preparation

Useful inputs make the scope clearer

  1. Share the system outline

    Provide Core and peripheral models, Designer version, available source files, room count and signal-flow drawings. List microphones, loudspeakers, conferencing equipment and networked audio endpoints. For a fault, describe the conditions that reproduce it.

  2. Agree the work package

    We review compatibility and define programming changes, UCI pages, integration boundaries, commissioning checks and handover files. You receive a written scope and project-specific estimate. Fixed price or time and materials can be agreed to suit the work.

  3. Develop and coordinate testing

    We arrange a test environment or authorized connection to the target system, with the integrator, IT team and on-site technician. Changes to an operating room use an agreed maintenance window and recovery plan.

  4. Hand over the agreed package

    Deliverables can include the Designer file, project scripts, UCI assets, signal-flow notes and commissioning results. Source delivery and ownership are confirmed in the proposal. Third-party plugins and licensed components remain subject to their licence terms.

Remote development and support are available across Canada and worldwide, subject to authorized access, compatible equipment and software, an on-site contact and an agreed time zone. GTA and Ontario on-site work is scoped separately.

For an inherited system, we first establish authorization and source-file availability. Network access does not guarantee recovery of an editable design or reusable scripts. Any reconstruction or replacement work is assessed separately, along with its impact on the operating system.
