Downtown Hamilton and the Mountain are not short on internet. Cable and fibre cover most of the built-up city, and if that is where you live, we are not going to talk you into a $449 Starlink install you do not need. The properties we actually go out to sit on the other side of that line — Flamborough, the escarpment edges around Ancaster and Dundas, and the farms strung out toward Binbrook, Mount Hope, Lynden and Caledonia, where the provider's coverage map is a lot more confident than the actual signal at the end of the driveway.
That rural belt is not small. Flamborough alone runs from Rockton and Freelton through Millgrove, Greensville and Copetown, and every one of those hamlets has streets where the nearest fibre node stops a concession or two short. Same story heading out past Glanbrook toward Binbrook and Caledonia — the new subdivision gets fibre, the farm next door gets a phone line from 1998 and a promise.
Three things come up constantly on these jobs. Escarpment terrain and mature trees. A lot of Ancaster and Dundas properties sit right on or under the Niagara Escarpment, and between the drop-off and the tree line a roof mount often cannot see enough clear sky — we survey first and move to a pole mount when it needs it. Steel-sided barns and shops. Steel kills Wi-Fi outright, so the fix is a proper Ethernet drop, not a stronger router. Older brick farmhouses, which get more common the further out you go — original masonry needs a cable entry point cut and sealed carefully, not just drilled through wherever is convenient.
